sad story

that's actually pretty sad. i don't know who did the maniacal laughter there but i'd have to guess melanie. for serious. did you get to ask the other teachers yet? cause i mean i don't know about the commonness of godparent seeking but at leaast when i lived in Brazil, i know it was not uncommon for the kids to be close to the teachers. they don't share the same paranoia as they do here in the states where any minute word said somewhat carelessly can lead to a lawsuit. it's just a whole different thing, yo. or maybe he is just crazy...but i doubt that. i'm guessing this poor kid hasn't been shown respect by any person who was older than him his entire life. so finally he meets a couple who takes the time to be with him, even if it was just out of not-being-rude-ness, you still spent the time with him. that goes a long way. anywho, you rock.
I'm not entirely sure that this would apply, but this situation makes me think of where it talks in the writings about how a Bahai cannot agree to raise a child in another religion.
I think that you tried to do the right thing by trying to let him down easily. Some people just have problems taking a no.
