Does it bring bad luck to show your fiance your decoration ideas?

Hi girls, I'm getting married in May this year, and I'm fighting against the time to plan my wedding. I've been lucky in finding a location, some friend's house, which helped us a lot in saving money! We have a very tight budget, but nothing that will stop us to create the most magical moment of our lives.
I am very superstitious and for sure I won' ( Read more... )

I always thought the guy was included in making decisions about the decorations. My husband knew about everything except what my dress looked like.

You just happened to save my wedding! I didn't know what to do about it, since we both are from different cultures. I'm from Brazil, and he is American-Irish. I have some Irish ideas to put into the deco, and I really would love his input!

In my culture is everything about the woman, we work on everything, every detail. But I don't have much time to deal with all of this by myself either.
Now I feel more confident! Thank you!

I totally didn't think about different cultures when I responded (long week!) so I hope I didn't offend you at all! I think it's a great thing to include him. My husband felt like he had some ownership of everything when we started working on things together (at the start a lot of the planning was on me because he was out of the country on a deployment). The day of is typically all about the bride (much of the focus, at least) and getting to pick the cake topper and napkin color and lighting made him feel like it was his day, too!

This. My husband either helped plan or at least was aware of some details about pretty much everything, aside from my dress and what I looked like in it.

Did you receive your dress yet? Websites like those worry me. Have you read any reviews about it online?

Seconding this...
Had a former coworker order a dress from a site that said they'd do a name-brand designer's dress for less. She got it and said it looked like a 5-year-old had done the beading on it. The proportions were all out of whack, too. It was a pain in the ass to return it since it came from China.

Um, what? My husband and I picked out all the decor together. Even if I believed in superstitions (I don't and think they are silly) it's not like decorations are only for the bride.

Do NOT NOT NOT buy your dress on the internet! The vast majority of those sites are scams, and even if it's not, you won't have a good sense of how the dress looks or fits your body without seeing it in person. There are plenty of places to get reasonably priced dresses. It's just not worth taking the chance of getting bilked out of your money and winding up with an ugly Chinese knockoff.

As for decor, I'm not aware of any sort of superstition around the groom or anyone else being involved.

Why would it be bad luck to show your fiance decoration ideas? It's his wedding too, I'd like to think he's helping plan it!
