Ardie's Movie List

Jun 29, 2008 10:19

So, every time I go to look at my dvd's for something to stick in the player and run, I wind up seeing a bunch of things that make me think, "Damn, Ardie's never seen that. I need to show it to her." But I can't ever hold any of those titles to memory, and watching a movie at home that I really would like her to watch means setting aside a night ( Read more... )

The Prophecy
"Where's the soul, Simon? You know, bigger then a breadbox?"

This was the first date movie I ever went to. Which probably says something.

Also to add: "Art of War" which has one of the best gun duels I've seen in a long time. ("Enemy at the Gates is the other one.)

"Ronin" if she hasn't seen it.

"Basic" is a well done movie that you guys might like. It's pretty much a rehash of rashomon, with John Travolta and Sammy Jackson chewing up the scenery like carpet.

I've seen Enemy, but don't own it. She's seen Ronin many times but *I* haven't, so while it doesn't directly apply to the purpose of this list, I suppose it ought to be on it anyway.

I think I wanted to see Art of War when it came out, but, man, Wesley Snipes. :)

I still need to see Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai too, although we don't own it. Eli totally reneged on that one and made us watch some other piece of crap instead. ;)

You do and you don't. It was really a piece of shit, but interesting at the same time.

Odd to see the concepts of honorable warrior reflected in the funny mirror of thuggish rap.

Wait, wait, she hasn't seen "Big Trouble In Little China"? You're kidding.

Also, skip "The Thin Red Line". It's a decent film until the battle ends and Terence Malick spends the last hour of the film doing what is best described as torturously slow directorial masturbation.

I'd have walked out of it in the theater, but when I actually stood up to leave? The end of the movie happened. ;)

That, and not the combat, are what I'd bother watching a Terence Malick film for, though. Kinda the entire point. :)

I'm normally perfectly happy to watch directors be self-indulgent (i.e. "Casino")?

But for some reason I simply couldn't stand it when it was Malick. No idea why...he just rubs me the wrong way.
