Santa Monica has been on my short list of Places To Live In SoCal Should I Ever Decide To Move Back There for many years. I dunno, it's one of those places that "feels" right. Sounds like you and Ard got a really sweet deal! ^_^

You know we lived across the street from [A|De]partment H for a while. Other than the homeless peeing in the stairwell to the garage (ew) and one notable incident where I chased one of them down the alley brandishing a cast-iron skillet because he was doing more than peeing, it wasn't BAD... and we never really got hassled.

And you'll get to meet Lipstick Mary, if she's still around.

I know it wasn't what you meant, but I love the mental image of Santa Monica as a suburb of Los Angeles that's literally "3 miles deep". In his house at Santa Monica, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming, iä, iä, etc.
