I'm sorry you've been hurt by this nasty little incident. But in the end, another nasty little incident is all it is - no more important than some bigot shouting a random insult on the street. And so many of us have been there, haven't we? Whether it's for whom we sleep with, or whom we choose as our friends.
You know who you are, what you've lived, who you've loved, and why. No small-minded cretins with big assumptions and bigger chips on their shoulders can take that away from you.
ah, this incident. mostly it's ... sad. really really sad. i know, such eloquence. such... verve. heh.
mostly i'm disheartened because we as people in this have come so far... and have worked so long and then it feels so... divisive. it's heartbreaking.
it's like suddenly finding a fence around my front lawn when i've just helped the neighbour cut the wood down, thinking we can build something positive together.
snookies. and have a good day. i am at work... and thankfully, my coffee cup is still at least half full :D

That's exactly how it feels, doesn't it? What an amazingly insightful way to put it.
I'm sorry for the abuse you've had - it's this kind of story that people who shout privilege tend to prefer doesn't exist.
Thank you for posting this, and the thing I most agree with (all of it, but this the most) "IT'S A STEP BACKWARDS" - which I was beginning to think that it was only me--given the vitriol I've been handed out for simply having an opinion--who thought this.
oh it's okay... this is mostly a... i need to scrape the algae from my brain and see if it's viable or soylent green.
someone once told me the true sign that you've gotten somewhere in a social fight is when the people you're fighting for either spit on you or ask you what all the fuss is about.
and i swear to god, i was drunk at the time so i don't remember who it was but god, it stuck in my head.
i'm sorry people have handed you crap over this. it really isn't deserved. i hope you're doing okay. truly.
