London tourist

Went on that ghostwalk last night. It was great. Not very ghosty or scary, but interesting. Lots of stories and legends were told and the guy who did it (apparently also the guy who wrote tons of books about haunted stuff) was really good. He was quite short but had a very booming, loud voice ( Read more... )

The walk took place in the city and I was (once again) astonished by who many hidden little allyways and courtyards and shops and pubs there are! Amazing! It reminded me of why I love this place so much (minus the annoying city workers and tourists, that is).

I agree on the little hidden bits of London - they're wonderful. I wish I could remember the name of it, but there was a website that had lists and pictues of some of the more interesting ones. I'll try and dig it up.

And I agree on the tourists too

Was it a "London Walks" Tour? I've been on a few and they've always done a terrific job. The guides know a *lot* and they are very entertaining.

Going to plays is so much different than going to musicals. While musicals are so very over the top, I often expect a regular play to be just like watching a movie. At first it seems like everyone is over-acting because of course it's nothing like watching a movie. I've seen Night of the Iguana, Philadelphia Story, Cuckoo's Nest and one other I've forgotten the name of and they were all great...hmmm all American ones...think I need to branch out a little!

It was by them:

They also do another one, the 'original ghost walk' (we went on the 'alleyways' one) and a Jack the Ripper tour. Definitely going on these someday, too!

I might check out where that really cool pub was I found (off Bank station) and maybe we can meet there for a drink soon?

I've been on the Jack the Ripper tour and while the guide was very very good, a lot of the orignal "scenes of the crime" have been lost to development. I think Mary Shelley's boarding house is a 6 storey car park now :-/ Not meant to discourage you because it was still very interesting. I love all of London's history!
