Hana Yori Dango might eventually have the dubious honour of being the manga series with the greatest number of adaptations. And thus, there are lots of heated fangirl debates about which is the best version and who are the hottest F4,

Not yet! Back when I was really into the anime, the manga hasn't been available yet. By the time it started, I kept hearing it was a trainwreck. I'd like to, though.

I've just always been curious how closely the anime followed the manga series, because sometimes I thought the manga was really sweet and the rest of the time I just kind of had non-commital "..... okay then" feelings about it. But I'm pretty burned out on this series now, so I don't know if I could even stomach watching the anime at this point, no matter how awesome it might be XD

I read this feeling sympathetic to your self-inflicted masochism but it helped being able to go "Ha ha Nodame's adaptation is better /o/" throughout

THE MUSIC WAS GOOD and somehow it was okay splitting Chiaki into a terminal illness composer and snot-nosed bastard since clearly it wasn't even trying to follow Nodame Cantabile from the start.

I love this write-up! It makes me remember how my friend forced me to watch HYD because she's such a shoujo-fail, but I loved all the characters anyway. But Makino trying to drown herself, someone should be jump-kicked in the face for that one. :(

Haha, but yes! I can totally relate because I always kind of had this bias against HYD as this EPICALLY SHOUJO THING I WOULD PROBABLY DISLIKE, but then MatsuJun was cast as Domyoji and I kind of went "WELL I WILL SUFFER THROUGH IT FOR HIM :|b" And then I ended up loving the characters a lot :x

Sob I will never forgive Korea's screenwriter for that atrocity, sob.
