Ned hadn't really expected a visitor on today of all days so, when someone knocked, he could only stare at the door for a minute before going over and opening it.

"H-hi," he said, clearly surprised by both her appearance and her costume. It took him a minute to realize that she'd come up here in costume to visit him. "You're in a...frilly costume."

"I'm a fairy," she told him happily. "Hi, sweetheart. Did you think I was gonna let you be alone today?"

"I...was trying to ignore what day it was," he said as evidenced by him staying in his room with the television off and the blinds drawn. He didn't need any reminders. "You didn't want to celebrate with your friends on the island?"
