Ned, for his part, hadn't been in the room when she'd gotten down to taking apart the DVD player. He'd been out, getting some food for the day and almost dropped it when he came back to the scene.

"Did you break it?" he asked from his spot in the doorway.

"I'm makin' it better," Kaylee assured him, waving from the floor. "Hi, sweetheart!"

"Hello," he said, taking a few steps inside and setting the bags down while keeping his eyes on the DVD player. "Making it better how? It worked before, didn't it?"

"But now it'll work better," Kaylee assured him. "It'll work faster'n won't get glitchy none. Digby an' Popples is helping."
