First-time IUD insertion diary - week 3

I think the IUD insertion gave me a yeast infection. They never explicitly mentioned the risk before it but after the procedure they did tell me to come back if I had any yellow smelly discharge. At the time I thought they were talking about a potential pus-like infection so I've been totally ignoring my non-pus stringy discharge that showed up on ( Read more... )

Yeah, I hear you there.

At least yeast infections are usually pretty easy to clear up...less disruptive to treat than a bacterial infection, too. Still, they suck.

How long does it usually take the strings to soften?

Uh.. strings soften? No one mentioned that

Not sure I know what you mean. It is string-like in that it's bendy and wiggles about. It's just harder than normal thread - like the difference between sewing thread and fishing line.

Hang on, just searched and found a mention on a forum that they might be soften up and be "less pokey" in the long run. If it does I'll let you know :)

I think the strings must have softened up sometime in the past week - itching has totally disappeared :)

Didn't have a yeastie after all, thanks goodness. Just super-annoying itchiness and discharge that was possibly aggravated by the poky strings.

Glad the itchiness is gone. I hate that feeling.

I'm still considering an IUD because hormones make me CRAZY...my friend swears by hers. I dunno, I'm still a bit wigged out by the idea, though...just don't seem to be many alternatives out there that are protective, non-hormonal AND don't require constant planning. I'm still waiting for the on-off fertility switch to become available to the public. ;P

But yeah...glad to hear yours is going okay, because that makes me slightly less worried. (As great as iud_divas is, there are a lot of worst-case-scenarios there...)
