A few thoughts on Possession

I hope you don't mind me commenting six years later. O_o (Wow, to the day. Creepy.) I was googling for reviews and found this. I'd recently read Possession myself but not much has been written about it.

Assuming you see this and remember the book, as an English Major, what did you think of it? I was a bit worried at first that A.S. Byatt was writing what everyone thinks English Majors are like (kind of dull and unassuming like Roland), but I was amused by some of the truisms. I'd be interested to know your thoughts, though.

It's definitely an intellectual read, and I think that's actually a bit daunting, because I feel literature has become less of an intellectual pursuit. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I need my "pleasure reading" if you will, but still, I enjoyed being forced to think. I'll admit that I skipped most of the poetry though, although I went back and read some things I realized were actually quite important.

I hope you get this, and don't mind me randomly popping in!
