Great review. I'm irked about the sex scenes...and i can't imagine a better Heathcliff than Ralph Fiennes. However, I will try it out because I'm a junkie. :)

Thank you! The sex scenes just seemed rather pointless, and struck me as stuck-in.

I agree, Ralph Fiennes did an admirable job, particularly in his portrayal of older Heathcliff. He really did come off as a demon, sometimes - he was so evil! But I think you'll be interested in what Tom Hardy does with the character, too.

Hiya. Found my way to your excellent review of the new WH. As a bit of a purist myself, I'm really disappointed in this new production. Not enough dirt or darkness or grim behaviour in any way. And so many bits missed out!

I remain a fan of the Dalton version, parts of the Olivier version, and a few elements of the Cavanagh version (Lockwood and Hareton). No-one has ever nailed the pusillanimous wimpy yet abused character of Linton either.

Once I've seen the whole thing I'll review it here alongside the other versions of WH I've seen so far - http://palimpsest.org.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3243
