So is the whole purpose of the diet to just make you forget you want to eat so you reduce your caloric intake, or does it also speed up the fat-burning process? It's hard to determine on teh internet.

By consuming flavorless calories, it basically makes your body think you are in a time when food is scare, and that makes it lower your set point, the weight at which your body is telling you to stay. You're less hungry and full faster because your body is trying to get back to that set point.
