So yeah, while I remember to do so, I need to ask you college students a question ( Read more... )

I have a desktop, and I like it, because I just feel safer with it, personally. I didn't think I'd bring a computer around a lot, as there are TONS of computer labs around campus here. I'm not so sure about Western, unfortunately. You should ask the guys and gals there what they think, mostly because they know what will be available to you.

For an overall choice, it's really what you'd prefer. I just don't like laptops, and I'm very used to desktops, so I went with that. Yes, there are times where I wish I could bring it around with me, but I live. It's a matter of preference.

Passwords...haha. I've got that message too, as has Brian. I'm sure they're doing that to a lot of people, so I wouldn't give it another though. I'm thinking along the lines you are, who's going to log in for you and make entries for you saying "HAHA LOL I'M CHRIS AND I'M SILLY!!!" or something like that? :P

You have a good day, Chris.

Just because I'm a dork, and if you're going to buy something new anyways, I'd suggest a tablet. You get the best of all worlds. But if your'e only going to take one thing up here, i would say a laptop. You'll be compelled to go outside since youd ont have games to play..haha, and I already whored your friends page a while ago with how I like my tablet. It's really useful, and they are beginning to have some decent ones, not tom ention you canf ind a used one like I did for under a grand. They also get way phenomial battery, as opposed to my "desktop replacement" desktop, which would be lucky to break 1:30, this one can just vegitate for 3.5 or 4.

Yup Yup. <3

Yeah deffinately go for one with a good battery life. I can get through 4 classes with my battery and I like it because I don't have to sit next to an outlet or bring a power cord.

not to mention I dont know about western, but if your nto in the engineering building, you might be hardpressed to find rooms that have seats near an outlet.. and if you do, it might be hard to find someone that hasnt taken it yet

I have a laptop and I like it alot. I have a docking station that allows me to hook up an external mouse/keyboard/monitor, and that's the setup in my dorm room. Basically, if you were to go into my dorm room, you'd think that I had a desktop since I have an external monitor and keyboard and mouse, but it's all hooked to the docking station. I can take my laptop out of the docking station and take it anywhere, which I think is the bonus of the laptop. I enjoy it's portability alot, and I think that's the main reason why I like my laptop so much.

I first went into college thinking that I wouldn't carry my laptop around alot, but now that I've been in college for a bit I have found that I carry it around a lot more than I originally thought I would. That was a long sentence.

I'd say buy a laptop. The portability allows you to take it wherever you want, I've taken mine to the library to take notes and do research. Our college has a wireless LAN, too, so I can connect to that even when I'm wandering around.

And by largely wireless he means second best in the nation. Pretty much every inch of the campus. And I've heard that next year it will be in every inch of the dorms too. Also there are lan hookups everywhere if you don't have a wireless Notebook, they are allmost as common as outlets some places.

I like having a laptop. We were too lazy to rearrange our room to fit desks, so this is much easier.
