So I haven't updated in a really super long time, but I feel it's necessary. You know, one of those things where your little fingers are just twitching at the prospect of possibly conveying your feelings to other people, in some hopes of a reaction. Anyways ( Read more... )

I think it depends completely on how its expressed. It's completely fine to be against homosexuality, yes, but if you go about saying things like, "oh my god its so gross, what's wrong with them?!?" or "Thank God they're all going to burn in Hell anyway." I think that's where intolerance comes in. Being tolerant would imply that while you don't agree, you also aren't out juding those who do, or all out refusing to get to know someone of that lifestyle. And I'd just like to say that, since I suspect that your entry plays off of my most recent one, I feel that my roommate's friend falls into this second category. It's not so much that she doesn't approve of homosexuality, it's more that she is intolerant of it, and demonstrates intolerance at its worst.

Ok, I've said my piece. haha, later Whitney!

I guess I just don't understand how she's demonstrated intolerance. Has she said they're going to burn in hell??? "Intolerance at it's worst" to me would be someone physically acting out on their feelings, such as with Mathew Sheperd, etc. Drawing on a whiteboard is NOT intolerance at it's worst.

I only know about that one incident. Maybe she is intolerant, but a statement on a whiteboard is just that, a statement.

exactly...but i chose not to post the more insulting examples in the interest of sparing feelings and not spreading that kind of behavior. she has demonstrated intolerance, though saying things like "they'll burn in Hell."

and I disagree on physical harm being intolerance at its worst. Emotional damage is just as, if not more harmful than physical pain. I dont think you can say that physically acting out their feelings is the only example of intolerance at its worst. Comments, and actions that dont physically harm people can carry just as heavy of an impact, (ie KKK cross burning.)
