Standing out in the wooded mountains of New Hampshire on a winter night can chill you to the bone, confuse you to hell as why you're anywhere, and make you question everything. Your breath freezes as it leaves your mouth so you're not sure whether or not you're smoking a cigarette and just forgot about it for an instant, and the wind can chill you to the bone. The air is so cold and devoid of motion that the stars don't even twinkle, they are steadfast little pinpricks in the sky, and the moon seems as bright as the sun. It makes you feel so small, because you know just how far a mile would be in those conditions on foot, that you feel like nothing at all ( ... )
