Minnie Mia's story about the seagull made me think -

What weird things have you told people to get out of eating?

I always tell people that I won't eat at the beach, or down at the park, or on a boat because I'm afraid of seagulls!

Oh, Hun, I'm sure that's not true.

I don't get too much grief, either - I live alone, work from home, and don't typically social in situations that food is made a big deal of.

Which means that when it does come up, I'm usually totally unprepared, and that's why I end up saying stupid stuff like, "I'm just afraid of seagulls!"

The guy I was with just kind of looked at me funny and shrugged.

Ha! I feel a tad famous (in a strange way) from your post :)

What normally works for me and keeps people fairly happy etc is saying 'Oh I've had soo much/many of whatever-it-is lately I'm sick of the sight of it' - my friends/family either leave it at that or sometimes offer a healthier option.
