I was thinking about posting a month by month breakdown of 2009 like I always do, but it's just too stressful for me this year. Or at least too time consuming. So instead I'm doing my top ten records of 2009.

Brand New - Daisy
Of course this is my favorite album of the year. It's Brand New. They yet again changed up their style, and make it darker and grungier. What I liked about this album was when I saw them do their live finale in 2007 at the Electric Factory, all those samples from the Untitled came together for different songs in this album. Truly cool.

Tegan and Sara - Sainthood
This wasn't what I was expecting to come out of the two girls, but it was made into something really nice. Harmonies and a little bit of electro? I'm good with that.

Say Hi - Oohs & Aahs
It really helps that I like anything Say Hi/Say Hi To Your Mom comes out with. This album seemed a lot more despondent however, but it works for them. A perfect album for the winter and those late nights walking home.

Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
PARTY TIME. If you think you've never heard of Phoenix, you probably have. Credit that to "1901" being played in every commercial imaginable. But no matter how overplayed it is, that song and the whole album is pure danceable goodness. I love taking long subway rides and popping this in for my morning commute. Gets me ready.

Polar Bear Club - Chasing Hamburg
Not my favorite out of this group, but it's still decent enough to worth mentioning. Some of these songs is what really holds the band together in this album.

Earl Pickens & Family - The Joshua Tree
Okay okay. I know it's my dad's band. Supposed to be uncool then, right? Well, what was put together here I think is so great. It's an alternative country/bluegrass/acoustic reinterpretation of U2's famous The Joshua Tree album. Filled with fiddle solos and perfect harmonies, it always makes me long for home and sweet little things in life.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!
I have a burning love for Karen O. That and my co-worker lovingly refers to me as "Yeah Yeah Yeah" because he thinks I look like Karen O. when I decide to don red lipstick and put my hair down. Haha. But anyway, this album was filled with dance goodness. And I love dancing. Especially at work, because this is the one good song I get to hear in the playlist.

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson - Break Up
Really wasn't expecting to like this, or even consider that Scarlett had any kind of voice. But her sultry croon works so well with Pete's, and the whole album is good from first to last song. I rarely skip over songs and have to listen to it straight through. I hope they don't come out with anything else together, because this is just too good.

Lily Allen - It's Not Me, It's You
Every song relates to any feeling that I've had so far this year. Lily Allen gets it, and is absolutely beautiful and totally adorable.

And since I can't find a nice 10th album of the year to round things off, I'm just going to post some of my guilty or not-so-guilty pleasures of 2009.
