Man Pleads Innocent in Beastiality, Pimping Charges

A Davenport man pleaded innocent to charges that he made graphic sex video tapes involving his then-girlfriend, dogs and children.
Kerwin L. Summage, 38, of 1825 W. 40th St., has pleaded innocent to second-degree sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children, child endangerment without injury, bestiality and pimping.
Attorney Jay Sommers filed the written arraignment last month so his client wouldn't have to attend a public hearing scheduled for today. He also demanded his right to a speedy trial.
Mr. Summage is accused of helping Melissa Mae Brown, 29, of 1825 W. 40th St., make several sex tapes made between January 2001 to July 2004, court documents state.
On the tapes, Ms. Brown allegedly performed sexual acts with her son, who was less than one year old, according to court documents. Other tapes showed Ms. Brown performing sex acts with three dogs, according to court documents.
Mr. Summage is accused of taping these events, along with performing sex acts on a dog on camera, court records state.
Court documents say Ms. Brown took her children with her while she prostituted herself on the streets of Davenport -- incidents recorded on videotapes. On camera, Ms. Brown describes her clients, how much they paid her and what her sexual experience was like in front of her children, court documents state.
Ms. Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison in April. As part of a plea agreement, she has to testify against Mr. Summage.
Mr. Summage was being held in the Dekalb County Jail in Georgia, after his arrest in December. He refused extradition at a hearing in January until he was transferred to Scott County in August.
Mr. Summage's arraignment was pushed back from Aug. 23 to today, to allow "the FBI to conclude their investigation," court records state. Court records show he was not indicted on any federal charges.
He was being held at the Scott County Jail Sunday evening on $65,850 bond. His next court date wasn't available Wednesday.
