I have niangao in the house which has been on the table since last week which my father bought.I have no idea if anyone will eat it eventually.

My mother says it's too fattening.I like to eat it fried in egg wash.

P.S. You must be a Southerner too if you eat niangao. Let me guess, Guangzhou or thereabouts?

Haha, yeah it probably is pretty fattening. And I've been eating it every morning since the weekend. :P I'm gonna try it fried in egg wash, hehe.

Yep, I am a Southerner--though I'm from the Shanghai area. :D You?

Ah, a Shanghainese! Is your niangao white in color? Mine is the brown Cantonese type.

I'm a mix of different cities so I have an identity/dialect crisis :( But Shanghai is not in the mix.

Instead of niangao, I have been having tangyuan for breakfast. So far, I have ate the peanut, black sesame and red date ones.

P.S. I had xiaolongbao for lunch today. The soup spurted itself all over my blouse.

Oh, when I said "fried" I mean pan-fried of course. I'm not suggesting deep-frying it.

And if you have the white kind, I'm not sure my method is applicable.

Forgot to say they used to add opium pods/seeds to 麻辣火锅. I think they banned it but who knows maybe some restaurants still do it :p The soup's supposed to be strangely addictive.

I think I would like to have 麻辣火锅 for 团圆饭 next year. Without the special "spice" of course.

麻辣火锅 sounds really good (I just looked up the recipe). And with that spice, strangely addictive indeed...heh. I wish I could have actual 团圆饭 with all of my family, but I suppose travelling thousands of miles at a non-break time of year is difficult. :(

I bought some authentic 麻辣汤 in Chinatown lately. It was pretty yummy and I'm tempted to make it myself one day. Am from parts of China where we're more temperate with spices if you know what I mean so it's quite exotic to me, all that 花椒.

Are part of your family in China or something? Were you born in China?

Well, certainly my family's not as liberal with the 辣椒 as, say, Sichuan, but my parents are very into spicy dishes. ;) I've been learning to like them more lately...

Yeah, part of my family's in China, and I was born there. I came to the States when I was pretty young though.
