Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) It was a fun (ok, not fun, but I enjoyed the research process) piece to write ( ... )

Oh my goodness =(

Oh my goodness oh my goodness =/

I had to learn about this in high school, but this is more than mildly painful--and somehow written in a very "French" style, which I enjoy. The colonies, and so on... phew.

Regrettably, I don't feel that I can give you a better review at this point, but I certainly enjoyed this, and I think your writing is improving quite a bit from the last thing I read.

(Don't worry about your French, either--it's A+ =)

Wait, and the title is a quotation from Lolita! How did I not notice that?

Good lord D:

Thanks! :) Yeah, I was actually going to make more references to Lolita, mainly about the way England and France were using their (former) colonies for testing, but that ended up being a title-only thing.

Yay, another enjoyer of French-style stories. I usually like French movies, which are done in a similar (disjointed) manner. :D

Oh, and I'm glad my French worked out. Btw, do you speak French as a native speaker? :)

Oh, man... that would have been so crazy. I've only read Lolita once, and I felt incredibly dirty the entire time, but I have to admit it was a good novel.

Ah, French movies! I'll admit that I haven't seen many, since I prefer reading in general--but I did like Amelie, and have a horrible thing for the 1999 Hunchback of Notre Dame musical.

I'm not a native speaker, but I started learning when I was 5 and nearly majored in it. So, I guess I'm probably functionally bilingual, but my vocabulary is a bit smaller and--just as in English--I still make errors sometimes, especially if it's been a long time since I read or heard it.

Hehe, thanks! :D

Characterizing England (and all former empires, like France) is always so...difficult, lol. Like, I'm always torn between their evil sides and their good sides.

I wonder if I should've written more about Algeria...XP

...Gah. GAH! This was terribly good.
The character interactions and insghts, US and UK especially were really fascinating, and the fact that lots of countries used colonies for their testing... Scary sad/infuriating.
I especially loved Kazakhstan showing each other their injuries.

I only wish there had been more Australia! Especially since it's kind of my head canon that he and America are bros

Thank you! ;)

Yeah, I gotta say I was kinda annoyed at various countries while doing research for this. (Argh France, whhhhy...)

Hehe, yeah, I wanted to include more Australia too! Now I'm wondering if I should make this a two-shot and write more about Australia, Algeria and Kazakhstan's side of the story.

I loved it !! It's very interesting, and thanks for the notes.

Note : may I suggest however that nuclear testing are usually made in deserts for some obvious reasons .... and UK and France have no desert contrary to USA, Algeria and Australia (and Russia has large uninhabited areas). I think this is the main reason ...

Thanks! :)

Haha, yeah that's true. XD But the thing is, the two of them could've simply avoided doing it altogether...I mean, at least the UK got along with Australia, but France and Algeria were fighting a war in the midst of nuclear testing (a war that France failed to acknowledge was a war until 2000), so it feels rather like nasty business. Haha, but nuclear testings are always nasty business, isn't it ? Like a lot of other things... If the French continued to make tests in algerian Sahara after the independance of Algeria, I can't imagine this was without the consent of Algeria ... and without some "compensations" (considered as "worthy" by the algerian government). I am afraid governments are like this, they are all usually very cynical and sometimes ignorant (even if I think all the countries were largely ignorant about the consequences of nuclear testings in the 60's)...

Yeah, hehe, nuclear tests are definitely all nasty business. :(

Actually, in the case of the French, they started nuclear testing in the middle of the war, which was not tolerated by the Algerian govt (for obvious reasons), and afterwards, they continued testing for another 5 years because the Évian Accords (ceasefire treaty signed) had a secret article that said, "Algeria concedes to France the use of certain air bases, terrains, sites and military installations which are necessary to it". I don't think they got much compensation, unfortunately.

And countries were definitely ignorant back then. :P
