As we rapidly approach 5 YEARS of Weird RI, I'm wondering if we've run out of weirdness... things have been pretty slow. Are you all spending more time elsewhere? In that time, Facebook has become huge - would it be worth migrating to Facebook ( Read more... )

Go out and take some pictures of weird things and then promote the community in other RI ones?

I would certainly encourage you to do that as long as the promotion doesn't come across as spam in the other communities. I'm not in RI, and on my recent trips home haven't come across anything particularly noteworthy... so nothing interesting to share with the other communities.

As a mod at rifood and a long time member of providenceri, I've always thought that Rhode Islanders just aren't that into LJ communities. Games, contests, and prodding might work. Like a scavenger hunt to see who can get themselves pictured with the most Mr Potato statues or group efforts to rank the 10 weirdest spots, weirdest facts, etc.

I'd at least leave the community open. There's no real point to deleting it just in case someone comes up with something down the line.

Oh, no - I'd never delete it! I just figured if people were more active elsewhere, we could relocate. I'm spending much more time on facebook, so I figured that would be the logical place. I don't want to set up a group and copy a lot of posts over there if the enthusiasm isn't going to justify it though.

I'm actually ok with us being mellow here, I just don't want the community to die out - we were on a roll there for a while! :)

People just need to use it, that's all. I've noticed that it's hard to motivate Rhode Islanders to do anything online, I don't know why.

My advice is that everyone make a point to put something up once in awhile, even though you've already shared it with you friends at work and the pub, or intend to.

Don't move the community whatever you do please. I'm not headed to facebook or anywhere else for the time being.

Not to worry - whatever is here will stay here! I'm just trying to figure out what works best for people. If there's something easy to be done to promote more activity, I'll do it so I'm just considering the options.
