It's such a hot button thing ya know.
But part of me has to wonder if the amish ask their women to cover their heads for the sake of modesty why can't Muslims.

It's a symbol, it's a sign of piety to some,it's mistaken for a freaking burka. So many shades of gray.

Of course it's France dealing with this.

Its a valid point, you could also draw comparisions between the yamkia and various other religious assocaited clothing that people wear on a day to day basis.

I think because of the current world situation, and especially the situation in France, the burka and all its lesser variations have taken on a much wider meaning. I think the french pride themselves on having a cohesive society with a pretty integrated and assimilated population, to them its a way to stay apart, for lack of a better word from what they consider the main stream.
