There are time it seems to me
I'm sharing you with memories
I feel it in my heart but I don't show it
Then there's times you look at me
As though I'm all that you could see
Those times I don't believe it's right I know it
She watches him through the glass walls from a safe distant, her eyes never once leaving the strong frame that his body possesses. She watches the knee-buckling smile spread across his lips when Stella says something (Aiden guesses it is some kind of new joke) and watches as he gives a full laugh as if nothing has ever happened.
Something such as the past that she and Flack had shared not too long ago. One filled with memories of late night walking, rain dances, lovemaking and nights where they would watch movies until both fell asleep together securely.
That is gone and now her memories are filled with the shadows that lurk across her wall as guests and nights where she worked until the wee hours of the night. Memories that she most definitely did not want to keep anymore.
She finally moves her eyes away from him and focuses on the monitor in front of her. Aiden wants to work, no doubt about it, but she cannot focus. She cannot concentrate on the suspect’s prints but instead the strong smell of Flack’s cologne that still lingers whenever she thinks of him. It irritates her because she was the one who told him that a relationship was something that they could not have because they worked together. They saw one another on daily basis, an outside romance would not work, and sure enough, it did not last more than three weeks.
She still remembers their first date. It was on a Wednesday evening. First, it started out with dinner, then a walk through Central Park and then to her apartment where they both fell asleep on her bed, fully clothed.
However, that was the first and she could not even believe she already experienced her last in less than three weeks.
And at that moment she turns her gaze away from the monitor to where Flack is standing alone (Stella must have ran off to run something for their case) and he’s staring down at his cell phone and Aiden feels the temptation to grab her own and call him. Call and yell telling him that what she said was a lie. That she did in fact still want to be with him because damnit, she misses him. She misses the way he touched her, the way he kissed her, the way he made her feel loved and all she wanted was to have him back.
Only if it was that easy.
Moreover, without warning, he glances up from his cell phone, his eyes meet hers, and she feels the tension that they share. Aiden offers him a fake smile and he returns it before both look away.
That is how they communicate now; just eye contact, fake smiles and small greetings in the hall. Nothing more then that and it tears at her heart strings.
The monitor beeps and pulls her away from her thoughts as her suspect’s picture flashes across the screen. Work. That is what she needs to do right now. Not worry about Flack or how badly she fucked up the relationship.
Just a murder. A Suspect. And a crime scene.
FINIS.
(Well, for now. Unless for some odd and strange reason I decide to add another chapter. We will see.)
