I know when he’s been on your mind
That distant looks is in your eyes
I thought that time you’d realize it’s over
It’s not the way I choose to live
But something somewhere got to give
And sharing this relationship it’s over, over
She is in the locker room when he arrives and for a brief moment, Aiden has the urge to stop what she is doing, dart out of the room but and run. He is guarding the exit and she is not sure, if it is on purpose or if he just likes that spot.
Awkward silence falls upon them and she finds herself having difficulty with opening her locker. She can feel his eyes on her, watching her every move and she knows now why he is doing that. He is trying to see if he still has that affect on her; the affect that made her body shiver and her hands sweat while her heart race.
And guess what? He still has the affect.
Aiden fumbles with the lock and before she knew it, his hands are slipping around her waist, pulling her body closer to his. She feels the shivers run along her spine as his fingers trail gently across her clothes.
“What are you doing?” She asks even though she knows damn well what’s going on.
He smiles and takes in her scent. “I miss this.” He whispers, his hot breath lingering on her ear.
Aiden wants it, they both know she does, but she does not want to go through with it. She does not because Aiden hates to admit that she was wrong and if it takes all she has to just lie to him straight in the eye, then so be it. “I don’t.”
His fingers stop tracing imaginary circles on her stomach as he takes in her words. “You don’t miss this? Don’t miss us?”
Aiden forces herself to nod and pulls away from his grip. “Leave me alone Don. I told you I wanted to end it and I mean it. What part of that don’t you understand?”
He slowly takes a step back from her and she does not even turn to face him. She instead keeps her gaze on her locker as he sighs and grabs his jacket. “I’m sorry. Somehow I thought maybe we still…oh fuck it.” Flack says as he tosses his jacket over his shoulder before taking small steps towards the exit. “Bye Aiden.” And just like that, he left.
She feels the hot tears form behind her eyes as she leans her forehead against the cool metal, her right hand curled into a fist as she pounds it against her locker. How stupid was she? He obviously wanted her back and she just blew him off.
“Why?” She asks no one as she slams her fist into the locker again before feeling the tears slip through her eyelids and run down her cheek leaving a trail of sorrow in its wake. “Why did I do it?”
“Aiden?”
She quickly removes her forehead from her locker and wipes her eyes with the sleeve of her shirt before turning attention to Stella who now was looking at her worried. “You alright?”
Aiden knew she could not be weak, not in front of Stella because Stella would not accept that. Stella knows how strong of woman Aiden truly is and Aiden cannot let her down. “I’m fine. It’s nothing.”
“Nothing?” Stella asks, her eyes never leaving Aiden's. “Your eyes are red. Were you crying?”
Aiden laughs and shakes her head as she finally manages to open her locker and retrieve her jacket and purse. “No, I just put in some eye drops and it must have irritated my eyes.”
Stella was not one to take bullshit and she most definitely was not going to take any from Aiden Burn. “What’s wrong? You want to talk about it?”
Aiden knows she just wants to help but she cannot bring anyone else into this. This was all her fault and she needed to deal with it by herself. “No thanks Stel. I’m just gonna head home and get some sleep. I’ll see you Monday.” And she flashes Stella one last fake smile before exiting the locker room determined to drink her problems away with her favorite drink, beer.
