Last night had been great. Like... really, really great. Jaime woke up slowly with a huge smile on his face. And he could wake up slowly, then maybe find Momoko and take her to lunch or something, then...

Wait... something was different.

Was there someone else in the room?

Sophia knew she wasn't supposed to enter a room with a closed door without first knocking, but that was a rule back home and she wasn't at home, so it didn't count, right? Right!

She leaned closer, almost nose-to-nose, "Are you awake yet?"

Jaime blinked. A) Who was in his room? B) Why didn't he recognize their voice? C) AAAAH! SHE WAS RIGHT IN HIS FACE!

He jumped back, bumping his head against the wall (because, duh), and staring wide-eyed. "I'm awake!"

Sophia laughed, both glad she wasn't going to get a reminder of the rules and because dad was too funny sometimes. She climbed into the bed and scooted close to him, waiting for a hug. She didn't get a lot of alone time with him, so she was going to take advantage of it.

"Yay! Can we have pancakes this morning? Please? With choc'aty chips?"

"Who..." Jaime trailed off as he caught sight of her eyes. Red. And not just regular red, Momoko's eyes red. It was a pretty distinctive color, after all.

"Wants pancakes?" he said instead of 'are you'.
