A friend and I had the same conversation twice, months apart at after parties of orchestra concerts. I suppose that isn't anything too out of the ordinary. Some people seem to have the same conversation everyday. But our conversation went something like this ( Read more... )

Did the conversation and toast occur in English or in Japanese? I ask only because I'm curious about how "Friend, I find this most unfortunate!" and "To failure" were said if it was the latter. Both are spectacular phrases regardless of what language they were said in, though!

Well the whole thing happened in English (my friend is an English teacher), but I have altered the actual phrasing so it isn't what we really said, mostly because I don't remember.

Well, the altered phrasing is good, in my opinion. I think it could be included in a short story.
