Part the First:
I'm cutting this just so that it's easily skippable for people who don't care or have heard already, but
Daily Kos is claiming via the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee that WE WON! The SENATE AS WELL AS THE HOUSE! In other words, despite all the energy and power of incumbency put into this election, this is a crushing victory for the Democratic party.
...and I have mixed feelings about that, but it's a durn sight better than the folks who have been running this country.
Part the Second: Little-Known Features of the MetroCard System
It turns out that MetroCard turnstiles are actually way smarter than you probably think. For instance, they can accept a second card swipe before the first swipe has turned the turnstile. So, when you see someone swipe, then the next person waits for the first to move through before swiping himself -- that's a waste of time! The system is designed to handle high-volume crowds trying to push through those gates, and that means the second person should start swiping as soon as there's space to do so -- it'll count how many rotations should happen before all accepted swipes are used.
Also, say you swipe twice in order to swipe your friend onto the system. If you then go to take a bus transfer, the card actually knows that it was used twice, and will give you 2 free transfers! Isn't that cool?
Part the Third: Something that irritates me.
...okay, so now I totally don't remember what this was. But suffice it to say that things irritate me. Oh yes, how they do.
