Project Description Part I: Introduction and Background Information

All right. Finally the circumstances are right for a substantial update as to the project I'll be working on this month. I have my lab notes, a cold, authentic Austrian beer, and the will to immortalize this project in my journal. ETA: I am realizing that to do this stuff justice (and to maximize the chances that the reader stays interested)

How come you never update your "newsletter" these days? You made such a big to-do about switching from a blog to a newsletter and then hardly update it.

Well, I wouldn't call my motivation stellar either: I looked back at my journal today and almost all of my entries from the past school year to the present are still on the current page of the journal. Anyway, have you had a chance to play racquetball with Kevin yet (nudge, nudge)?
