So I tried to follow the civic election while I was away, but didn't succeed very well. To those with an opinion, who is likely at this stage to present the biggest challenge to Katz? That is, who is riding higher - Cirelli or Hasselriis? I'm trying to figure out the best use of my vote, even though neither are likely to beat Katz.

I am receiving conflicting information. I really have no firm idea, but I’m leaning toward Cerilli right now.

With the people I know its Hasselriis but I agree, neither of them will defeat Katz.

Cerelli is the way to go. And I don't think the election is in the bag for katz. (One CJOB poll had her at ~50%, with katz in the 30s and Kaj at 6%). Though perhaps I would fall into a suicidal depression if I were to give up hope.
Cerelli has the experience, she is backed by labour (which makes it more likely that she will get the lefty votes), unlike Kaj she is not pro business (he wants to get rid of the business tax) and despite kaj having artists run his campaign, cerelli is the only one with a solid arts platform. She has a good analysis of the link between poverty and crime and instead of putting more cops on the street, wants to reduce poverty as a way of dealing with crime.
I have met both of them (before the election) and Kaj gives me an uncomfortable feeling, I think he is smarmy and deceitful. Cerelli seemed like a decent, honest person.

I agree mostly about Cerilli. The thing about the business tax, though… I mentioned in a negative fashion to someone at Mondragón that Kaj wanted to cut it and they responded that they’d love it. We should remember that there are many smaller businesses that are worthy.

But Kaj did manage to be the first loser at the Junto spelling bee!

While I agree the dragon needs help, the extra money a repealed business tax would bring them is not going to do it. They need to actually learn how to run a business. My thoughts on the dragon are beside the point though. Worker co-ops are not the majority of small businesses out there, maybe if they were I would consider the business tax a bad thing, because then I would know the money saved would actually get passed on to the workers. Small business owners are still capitalists, their interest lies, not with the working class, but with the capitalist class. Do you really think small business owners are going to raise the wages of their workers, or provide them with benefits or improved working conditions if the business tax goes away? They are going to line their pockets with more money.

That’s true for most, but not all, I feel.

I think Kaj made the business tax cut part of his platform to get favour from the Chamber of Commerce types. Gross.

Annnyway, I didn’t want to be all defending it, just pointing out a benefit.

I know zilch about Cerilli, except that apparently she's popular. When my dad asked who I was voting for, I said "well, Kaj, obviously," and he was like, "REALLY? WHY NOT CERILLI?" like it was this huge deal. So maybe her after all.
