Lots!
-Moved to another city
-Lived with a significant other
-Got engaged
-Got a job in a restaurant
-Went to a nude beach (twice)
-Got a cat
-There's probably more.
2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm pretty sure I made some resolutions last New Year's, but I don't even remember what they were. So I'll probably just not bother this year...
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Dana's sister.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandmother, in the spring.
5. What countries did you visit?
The United States, for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It ended up being fun!
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A better job.
7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 7th, when we first arrived in Vancouver. Visiting my grandmother at the hospital, even though I'd need to consult a calendar to remember the date. That time the girls from Winnipeg came to visit, and I got so stoned I didn't even know where I was!
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Writing that article about gender-nuetral washrooms, which for some reason set off a media flurry after I left for Vancouver.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding my dream job in Vancouver. I guess I really thought it would happen?
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Just some bad colds.
11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
Nothing really comes to mind! But I'm sure I'm forgetting something awesome.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
I hate these two questions.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
14. Where did most of your money go?
Booze, food and airline tickets.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Probably coming to Vancouver, though it was more excited/apprehensive than anything.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
I don't even know. That "Civil Twilight" song by the Weakerthans has been in my head for the last two months, so maybe that counts?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) fatter or skinner? Maybe a couple of pounds heavier?
c) richer or poorer? Probably the same or slightly richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Throwing resumes at people, making new friends, writing.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Slacking off.
20. How do you plan to spend Christmas?
It's the first christmas away from Winnipeg, so it'll be weird... I'm making lots of food, and attempting cabbage rolls for the first time in honour of my baba. Dana and I will probably just hang out here, drinking rum-infused eggnog and stuffing our faces. Then it's back to Winnipeg (yet again) for Ukrainian Christmas.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
No, I fell in love in 2006.
22. How many one night stands?
A handful every week, I guess?
23. What was your favourite TV program?
Seinfeld, or possibly Family Guy.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Yeah, but I don't want to dwell on it/deal with it.
25. What was the best book you read?
I'm a geek, but probably the final Dark Tower novel. That sucker was a thousand and some pages!
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Fucked Up.
27. What did you want and get?
A cool apartment in an interesting neighbourhood.
28. What did you want and not get?
A better job (there might be a theme here).
29. What was your favourite film of this year?
Yeah, The Mist was pretty wicked.
30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I don't remember if these things happened on the actual date, but Dana took me out for an awesome dinner at Fude, and tons of people showed up at the Toad for a drink-fest. Oh yeah, and I turned 24!
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Having a better job.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Dark clothing, consisting mainly of jeans and band shirts. Note similarity to 2006.
33. What kept you sane?
Dana, of course!
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I fancied my foot kicking their collective ass.
35. What political issue stirred you the most?
If by "stirred" you mean: sent you into an impotent rage in which nothing concrete was done... having to see Harper's ugly face about twice as much as when he was in Opposition, the whole climate change debacle, the ridiculous housing situation out here, and the collapse of the American economy as a result of rampant greed run amuck.
36. Who do you miss?
My family, James, Leighton, Dylan, Vivian, Chantal, and even Daniel!
37. Who was the best new person you met?
Scott.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007?
I don't know, something about not fearing the unknown, I guess?
39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
No.
