Hi there! Someone in one of the FF7 communities linked to
causticmuse's Reno sackboy, and I went OMG SQUEEE. Only problem was it had been 25 years since I'd touched a crochet hook and the only stitch I remembered how to do was a chain. (d'oh!) But I do have a degree in technical theater with a costuming emphasis, so I knew what approximate shapes I'd need for making things...
2 days ago: found
causticmuse's head pattern and a Google site explaining how to do single crochet.
Yesterday: figured out how to freestyle-crochet in order to shape a body and coat-tails with that dramatic swirl thing going. (I'm still working on the little shouldamapads but I suspect they're going to vanish into the hair anyhow.)
Today: Sackiroth!
(He's obviously not completely done since one arm isn't stuffed or attached and neither is the coat-skirt, but I think he's doing really well for 2 days of crazed crocheting when I didn't have a clue what I was doing when I started. I'm not sure I can still feel my thumb, though.)
He's got 3/4 of a skein of yarn on his head and all that hair is waaaaay too heavy for his neck to support, hence the chopstick through the skull...
See what I mean about the hair? XD It took about four hours of rooting.
I wanted to say thank you again to Causticmuse for both the inspiration and the really clear and simple-to-follow head pattern, because without that jumping-off point to start from I'd never have had the nerve to try something like this. But he was lots of fun to make!
