I've had classes in which people online with their laptops would find material related to the lecture and bring it to the instructor's attention as part of the discussion. The instructor would bring up the site on zer laptop, which was projected for the whole class to see. This frequently introduced angles on the topics that would not have otherwise been explored. What made it work, in part, was that it was a graduate level class, and most of the people in the class already had some background in the topic, and knew what to search for.
I'm all for continuing the discussion here. I'm interested in seeing how other interactive web modes (friendster, etc.) look through a lens similar to Terri's. How does the "grab" differ? Does conciousness of the grab affect self-presentation?
