BOOKS
Favourites:
- Ashes ★★★★★ and Shadows by Ilsa J Bick (Ashes Trilogy #1 & #2) ★★★★☆: These helped to fill a Walking Dead shaped gap in my life. Ashes follows teenager who, while on a camping trip, discovers that an electromagnetic pulse has caused some of the surviving population to become zombie-like cannibles.
- Crown of Midnight by Sarah J Maas (Throne of Glass #2) ★★★★★: If you haven't read any of the Thone of Glass series you need to correct that! The main character Calena was an assasin who was enslaved in a slave camp. Book 1 of the series follows her as she competes to become the king's champion and earn her freedom.
- A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab (A Darker Shade of Magic #1) ★★★★☆: Based in a universe where there are multiple parrallell worlds each with it's own version of London. We follow a man from the magical Red London who can travel between the worlds and a young thief from our Grey London.
Classics: The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien ★★☆☆☆, The Time Machine by H G Wells ★★★☆☆, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes ★★★☆☆
Others: Locked In by Kerry Wilkinson ★★★★☆ (love this crime series), Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson ★★★★☆, The Sea Sisters by Lucy Clarke ★★★☆☆, Doctor Who: A History of the Universe in 100 Objects by Steve Tribe and James Goss ★★★☆☆
I've also just re-read The Hunger Games trilogy ready for Mockingjay: Part 2. I'm now reading The Martian by Andy Weir
TV
Archer S1-5: This is a kind of stupid (and crude) cartoon about a spy agency. I enjoyed it though and it was really easy watch (we could watch this while doing puzzles, our new hobby!)
Gotham S1: I really enjoyed this and I'm looking forward to S2. Penguin is definitely my favourite in it!
White Collar S1-3: Loving this. I though it would get old after 1 or 2 seasons but it's still great. S4 and S5 are also on Netflix, but I've taken a break to catch up on The Walking Dead.
Attempted: I tried to get into both Fringe and Bates Motel, but unfortunately neither of them gripped me enough to keep me interested.
Currently watching: Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, The Vampire Diaries S1 and The Walking Dead (re-watching S4 before moving on to S5 which has just come out on DVD).
FILMS
It's been a while since I've mentioned these...
New (to me):
- The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies ★★★☆☆
- Ant-Man ★★★★☆ (One of my favourite from MCU)
- Dallas Buyers Club ★★★☆☆ (Not a cheerfuk watch, but a good film)
- Wet Hot American Summer ★★☆☆☆
- Insurgent ★★★☆☆ (They changed so much from the book!)
- Batman Begins ★★★☆☆ and The Dark Knight Rises ★★★★☆ (Great series, but The Dark Knight is my favourite)
- Focus ★★★★☆
- Begin Again ★★★☆☆
- Thor: The Dark World ★★★☆☆ (I find it really hard to care about Thor)
- Star Trek Into Darkness ★★☆☆☆ (I won't be bothering with any more of these, if there are any)
- The September Issue ★★★☆☆
- Monsters University ★★★★☆ (A great prequel)
- The Martian ★★★★★ (THIS WAS SO GOOD!!)
I've also done a lot of re-watching, including the POTC, The Hunger Games and Iron Man series.
