Warning -- a rant

This might offend some people but it's been bottled up for several months. It is a reaction to people that believe that sex education shouldn't be taught in schools and that promise rings are the only reasonable approach to dealing with teenagers and sex.

Have you seen Sucker Punch? Your rant is a good description of that movie - and I agree with you entirely. This is why my sisters make sure my nieces are well taught at home, they don't leave it up to the schools.

Brilliant! My daughter went through the UU curriculum called Our Whole Lives (this one made the news for its sex education component). The 7th and 8th graders had a rather interesting, thorough, frank and diverse education on sex/love/physical need and prophylaxis (including a visit from our local Planned Parenthood). This is more than I ever had which was a clinical discussion of the mechanics and then I found my mom's book "Everything you ever wanted to know about Sex* : *but were afraid to ask" Which I know now had some serious misinformation and omissions.

The "sex education" was a mixed class taught by the youngest teacher in the school when I was in 7th grade. I think he was like 22, quite handsome, married, and drove a motorcycle to school ( ... )
