The Paddock Party ... I think I get it now, and I'm even more disappointed in REC than I was before, if that's possible.

I had the same thought when I first saw the party invite. Why isn't REC paying for this upkeep? It seems they are simply taking advantage of the rennie community to provide at least free labor, or worse, money and labor that they will not see a return on. It seems some things have not changed since REC bought NYRF.

I see this behavior go on way too much at faire. People give there time, effort, and money for what appears to be the privilege of being on site and with in the crowd.

Now, I fully understand wanting to help friends, and certainly understand those who do this for their livelihood, but I don't understand people who continually let themselves be taken advantage of in this fashion.

If I thought it would actually make a difference I would not come to NYRF at all. I don't want to support a compaby that won't take care of their animals properly.

But NYRF is the only time I get to see some people who I wish I would see more of..

I would write to REC and tell them that. If multiple people considered coming less often, giving up season passes, etc. they might see that their decisions have an economic impact.

Hon, thanks for posting that; I had already read it. Like I said, I think it's totally faboo that people are putting this benefit together, because the maintenance/upkeep NEEDS to be done, for the horses as well as the jousters. And yes, I realize Don & Kelly have even more of a stake in it than the rest of us. This benefit is a Very Good Thing that's happening.

BUT. I think it's shameful that anyone even needs to come up with the idea of a benefit party to pay for improving the paddock conditions. This should be something that REC covers as part of their normal operating overhead. If REC denied the use of their property, the benefit would happen anyway... somewhere else... and the paddock would still get fixed.

If I hear that REC is matching all funds raised at the Paddock Party, then I'll happily take off my Cynical Hat. But I won't hold my breath.

That would make this much less irritating to me. Even if REC said we'll match up to some fixed dollar amount. I might even contribute w/o attending. The point is REC should contribute something.

See now I guess Don's response dispells what I heard which was....inspectors told REC they HAD to improve the conditions of the paddock or they could not have the horses back this season.

I can't even begin to comment on REC...but

I'm going to try and go to paddock party. If it was for a booth, might think about it...but so I have a weak spot for animals...horses definitely (old tales) and if REC is not going to put forth the funds needed...if anything needs to be fixed/upgraded I think it's for the 4 legged wonders!!
