You were cooking the beans from dry, yes? If you've already pre-soaked them they 'only' take an hour to cook. If you went straight from dry, then you'd be lucky to get them soft in 3 hours.
Yeah, we'd been pre-soaking them since Tuesday morning. Apparently the problem was that the recipe told us to salt them before cooking them, and that causes them to take longer to soften.
Ahh! My husband totally stopped by after our ultrasound this morning and got himself a sausage McMuffin before remembering (too late) it was Ash Wednesday.
