I found the Lord of the Rings films entirely missed the point of Tolkein's work, but many non Brits do.

I shan't be bothering with the Hobbit films as they plainly miss the point even more

This really had me laughing. Especially the part about Richard Armitage brooding the hell out of Thorin Oakenshield and the ringwraiths [not] getting pulled to the ring like magnetic north.

I never liked the Hobbit book much--like you, I only really liked the Riddles in the Dark chapter--so I haven't seen the movie. I like hearing other people talk about it, though.
