Congratulations are in order for Ragnelle, whose story, First Sorrow, has won the Archives of Excellence January writing challenge, Before the Beginning. Here's your icon!
Hmm . . . I'm looking at the picture, and wondering if it couldn't be tweaked some so the text and picture all work together better. You might say it's making my artist's eye (what there is of it, lol) twitch. But don't let me step in where I'm not wanted; this is the last I'll mention if it's not something you'd like me to fiddle with.
It's more that though there's definite depth to the text, it doesn't stand out well and gets blurred with the picture behind. The colors don't feel like they work well together, need a bit more perspective/separation (for instance, the January 2010 feels like it's just plastered onto the rest instead of propped out from it--it's hard to explain, lol). To be exact, I actually like the text fairly well (good font choices, and it's got some depth to it, just not depth in relation to the picture, which needs to be fixed), but I feel the background picture/colors need some re-designing. I would take the dark red and tan out (one particular thing that nags at me is the two colors separated by the straight line--doesn't feel right at all), put something even darker maybe? The colors feel like they need a greater contrast. (I assume the picture in the middle is central to the whole award? Whether it's kept or not changes how I'd do things, but it's quite workable with that picture.) It's hard to say what all I'd do because a lot of
( ... )
I don't mind if you fiddle with it. Ragnelle is already using it, so it's moot. If you want to be my icon beta, I'm cool with that. It does me no harm to get a bit of critique for that as well as my stories.
The picture is basically a brand new galaxy transposed onto an award plaque.
