Oh wendy, this has happened to me with HBO too many times. The Sopranos, Deadwood, and Carnivale all took over my world. Most frustrating is Carnivale since it wasn't supposed to end. I keep hearing about the Wire and will probably end up just buying them eventually since if it lives up to the other series it's gotta be good :p
Yeah, what's up with taking perfectly brilliant shows off the air? I do not approve. I heard Carnivale was great, too....gotta steer clear if I'm going to preserve any mental space that remains in my head after the Wire has hit me.
The Wire is freaking awesome. I only watched the first season, but after the first episode I had to watch all the rest RIGHT THEN. In Portland I use the library system to watch DVD's. It took a year of being on hold to get it, but it was worth it. it was free.
Never actually watched Lost. I am skeptical about it, to say the least. If a show isn't going to be as surreal and creative as Twin Peaks, then it has to be as realistic as The Wire to get my interest. Something tells me that Lost doesn't have either of those qualities.
While I'm thinking about it, let me recommend the second season to you. It's a totally different focus; they look at longshoremen working on the docks, and how corruption there contributes to the drug trade going on in the rest of the city. They also get into the sex trade and human slavery, and let me tell you: the first episode brought me to tears. So fucking intense. It'll be worth it, even if you have to wait another year.
