Burned
“I woke up in this room, with what was left of my clothes on the floor and the Doctor healing burns all over my body, and my planet nothing but a ball of fire.”

He awakens, and all that exists is pain.
Walls of fire in his head, the acrid smell of burning still around, and he thinks he’s still on the battlefield. But humming surrounds him, soothes him. Safe.
Later, the Doctor’s there, mouth grim as he heals Jack’s wounds - those he can see.
He has to ask. “Schattenw-”
The Doctor turns away, and he knows.
“You should have left me.”
The hand near him clenches; the knuckles turn white. “No.”
“Why?” His world’s gone. He should have died too.
The Doctor’s fingers brush his face.
“Every world deserves one survivor. To remember.”
