“It’s huge! How does it do that?”
“Well, now, laddie, that would be rather difficult to explain.”
Jack gives the Doctor a scathing look. “You mean you can’t.”
“Course I can.” The Doctor tweaks his nose. “You just wouldn’t understand.”
Belligerent, Jack says, “Try me.”
A long explanation later, with terms like dimensionally transcendent and vortex-powered, fourth-dimensional space, chameleon circuit and dematerialisation, young Jack’s eyes shine. “I want one.”
The Doctor’s eyes shadow. “She’s the last in the universe, lad.”
Jack hugs as much of the console as he can. “Then we’ll just love her enough for the whole universe.”
