What I and a lot of people foresee is Scotland and Northern Ireland, and probably Wales, pulling out, breaking up the UK pretty damn fast. The Scottish referendum is up again next year, and this time it looks like it'll pass. The UK is going to be no more. Wales got tons of subsidies it needed to survive from the EU, and England sure as hell won't fill that in -- Wales will follow Scotland. This is all a much more huge mess than most people here in the US think.

Yeah. There are a lot of people with legitimate concerns about being left behind by the economy and feeling disconnected from their leaders. However, I sure wish so many of them would stop blaming their problems on immigrants and stop taking such a hard line "screw you" attitude to anyone establishment that they're willing to set the world on fire in order to get smoke in the establishment's eyes.

Scary times right now.

CNN is now reporting that the vote is "advisory" and may not be binding - could that be true, do you think?

The answer to that is political rather than legal, I suggest. Yes, only Parliament can vote for withdrawal, but what would happen were they to vote to remain, counter to the expressed wishes of over 50% of those who voted? How many MPs would lose their seats at the next election? This is the political reality ( ... )
