So I should be working on my two ongoing multi-chaptered fics. And I am, really! But there's Jackie, and comments on my last drabble that got me thinking, and - well, here it is. Not BRed this time.
Countdown
The roar of the blue box fades, and she counts.
Ten. That’s all it takes to lose a daughter.
Inevitable, yeah, but normally it’s to marriage, moving away, the start of an adult life. Not to an alien without even a name.
She could die out there, zillions of miles from home. But worse is the danger that she’ll live, and realise that he loves her. Then she’ll never come home.
Ignoring Mickey - if he can’t keep her here, what use is he? - she turns away.
Yesterday, a brave new world. Ten seconds is all it takes to end it.
