REALID = Really, "REAL"ly bad "ID"ea

I just..... my brain's not working. Too much to assimilate, as it were. I'm not real sure what my reaction is, except shock.

Looks like Blizzard has all but committed suicide, as this post in wow_ladies shows. I guess me and mine will be finding a different game to spend our time and money on, if this goes through. I can't even begin to articulate the ( Read more... )

Heh. Yeah, I know, but I'm not sure I wanna risk it; it is illegal. Would totally, utterly shatter everything I've been trying to teach my son, about learning the rules and sticking to them. I finally have him listening to me, after eight, nine years.... I'm not willing to chance him taking that as his cue to cut loose again. I don't think I could survive another round of his antics.

I wasn't saying for him, I was saying for you :P

He'd want to know how I'm playing without being subscribed.... he'll be sixteen in a couple of months, and while he's been breaking laws and house rules left and right, he knew exactly what he was doing. I've finally got him beginning to understand that breaking the law is wrong, but if I turn around and break it, it'll undermine everything I've been finally getting through to him.

In this case, standing on the high ground is dry and lonely... but I'm not going to undermine what I'm finally beginning to get through to him. I have to live the example, if I'm going to show that he can trust what I say to be true.

Sometimes...... it really, really sucks :P

I know the feeling. I really DON'T want to, and for right this moment, I'm hanging on, hoping..... because none of my accounts are due to actually be paid again until at least September. Let 'em think they still have me, while the accounts are still paid up. If this hasn't cleared up by then, well.... byebye WoW, I guess.

.....I'll put Naly to rest in the secret nook she and her husband still visit, when they want a quiet bit of snuggling and private conversation. It's the least I can do for her; I know Jas will put Naly's beloved Warlock to sleep beside her.

The thought, though, makes me cry. Strange.. crazy... but I can't help crying over it.

I decided that I would put Verlayla in Shattrath -- it was her original home of course. And yes, I cried over that too. Look at me, grieving over pixels.

They're not just pixels, though. Those "pixels" represent our dedication, hard work, blood, sweat and tears. No, it's not earth shattering or anything, but there's no denying we have an emotional investment in the characters we created and guided through their world.

I'm such a silly, sentimental wench :/

I don't play WoW, but damn, that's dumb.

Yeah, it is. Trust the beancounters to come up with schemes like this..... unfortunately, from what I've been able to read, the beancounters are now in charge.

I'm afraid I have to agree with one person's assessment of the situation: "I always knew WoW would die someday, but I never dreamed I'd witness Blizzard committing suicide..."

That puts it more eloquently than I can (at least, until I've had a chance to get some sleep).

The beancounters are in charge everywhere. It sucks.

So if you post on the forum your real name shows up?

How about just not posting on the forum? I mean was it something you did a lot of anyway?

I don't get it and as it stands I'm not going anywhere. I don't use the forum and I don't get why it matters.

You need to read the links, sissy.. they're not stopping with the forums. That's just the beginning.

ETA: For us, there is no choice. You're pointed to the forums for technical support, for customer service.. the GM's in game will send you to the forums to answer your questions. So it's not voluntary - in the case of tech support and customer service, it's MANDATORY. And they're not giving us a choice in whether or not to show our real life details. That's the problem, and, as I said, it's only the beginning...

I've been out of the game for over a year now, but...I mean, uh...I may just be a lot more laid back, but I personally don't see the big deal over this. I post my real name all over the place. I have a Facebook. This Livejournal has my name on it. I have a deviantART, Furaffinity and Sheezy account with my name on them. My Second Life account has my name on it, visible, to anyone looking up my stuff. My Gaia account has my name on it. Etc.

Do some of these services give you the option to hide that? Of course. I just think a mass exodus is a bit premature. I doubt it'll even scratch the surface. Blizzard has MILLIONS of paying customers, most of which are going to stay on. If you're still having fun with the game, I'd stick with it. I wasn't, but that's just my refusal to do dailies and sit for ten hours TRYING to raid or do heroics.

If someone on the internet REALLY wanted to find you, it'd be a lot easier than you think, having your name or not. That's just my two cents. I don't mean any offense by them.

I never thought you'd mean offense, and you give sound arguments. However.... no, these new Blizzard services do NOT give you the option to hide your real name or anything else they choose to reveal for you in the forseeable future. And you can't just opt out of the forums, either.... GM's send you to the forums for technical support and customer service issues, so you don't really have much of a choice ( ... )
