So I was trying to read John Marco’s The Eyes of God, primarily because the second book in the series, The Devil’s Armor looked neat (I’ve got a soft spot for cursed armor that gives you great power at the cost of your humanity). I think right after the hundred page mark you start questioning it with every page. I know I got stopped on Harry Potter 4&5 in the early hundreds (at this point I refuse to finish 5), as well as Fellowship back in Middle School.
You should just skip to book 2. If the characters and story are that lacking, it shouldn't be hard to dive right in.

if you time to question you aren't reading fast enough . . . harry potter should be read before you get a chance to question. -zack

I usually stop before page 50 or finish at all costs. I'll admit that's not rational behavior.
