It's so small and pretty!
Since this camera (Fuji FinePix F30) IS known for its crazy low-light capabilities, first thing I did (after throwing caution and the owner's manual to the wind) was take a bunch of low-light pictures in my dark little room. Came out okay. It doesn't have a lot of noise, but the pictures look like they'd been run through the Impressonist filter in Photoshop... big-time. They look decent when shrunken down, but I'd rather the camera have the option of turning down that damned noise reduction so I can have the noise and get rid of it with a Photoshop noise filter.
But shots in adequate light turned out AMAZING *O*;;.
Now for some random YAYS and NOES:
YAYS
- I can take pictures one-handed! So if I lose the other in an industrial accident, I will still be able to take pictures... though changing photo modes and all that stuff is a whole other matter.
- It DOES work with those new-fangled Olympus High Speed cards... I accidentally ordered one because I didn't know what I was getting into. I am now future proof!!11
- The flash is a STRONG little muthatrucka... Shined clear across my room and caused a helluva glare off of my silver drumset (picture turned out just dandy, though).
- Nice menu system! Very intuitive and not ugly at all! Though I wish I didn't have to completely exit ALL of the menus to back out of the screen for one.
- Faaast save-time. Might be helped with the high-speed card but... yay! No more counting backwards from 10, waiting for the last crappy picture to save!
- Very accurate focus! It focused on a 1cm wide piece of reflective metal in macro mode with no problems... with my old camera, I'd have to focus it on something big at the same distance, lock the focus, and move the camera onto the correct subject.
- The LCD has an anti-glare coating. Sweet. The shiny surface on the LCD of my old camera smudged up like a mutha... AND I couldn't see it in sunny places.
NOES
- The AF light will erase people's memories a la Men in Black. It is a really bright green LED. While it makes the camera pick less ridiculous ISO's, it's still damned scary so I've turned it off.
- The lens sounds like a cybernetic moth. Zooming and focusing are LOUD! I thought I was just being crazy, but I just turned on my 2-year-old Kodak and it's whisper quiet. The Fuji will probably echo in a library.
- It seems to focus slower than my old camera. Understandable, though... my old camera had this crazy 2-point AF focuser and the Fuji has... a UFO landing light.
- The wrist strap chafes >_>;;... Okay, now I AM just being crazy. But my old one was all broken in and comfy!
All right, that's it for now. Time for food!
