"Just be here for me when I come back," Will had said. "That's all I'll ask."
"You know I'd wait for you, for ten years, a hundred ... a thousand."
But he'd pressed his finger to her lips. "I can't ask that of you. Not for ten years. I can forgive anything as long as you're waiting on the shore for me when I return."
She believed he'd meant what she'd said. That he'd wanted her to be happy. But now, her belly swelling with her second child, she wondered if he'd really meant the bargain to stretch this far.
