Exhausted from beating back the latest Vong assault, Fett turned the corner, and found Beviin and his -- well, he was sure there was a word for it in Mando'a, but he wasn't interested in a language lesson right now. Or ever.
Medrit, Beviin had called him earlier.
They were still in armor. Just talking, but it seemed somehow ... intimate. Feeling like an intruder, Fett turned and left. Beviin, who never missed anything, seemed not to have even noticed him.
Fett tried to analyze the odd feeling in the pit of his stomach, at the thought of the two of them. That they were both men wasn't the problem; it took a lot more than that to shock him. In his travels through the galaxy, he had seen creatures who enjoyed death and delighted in pain. After the debauchery of Jabba's palace, two men in love seemed downright ... tame.
But when he imagined them holding each other, still looking at each other the same way, like the world could cease to exist and they wouldn't even notice, he felt hollow in the pit of his stomach.
It couldn't possibly, he told himself, be anything as prosaic as envy.
