Always before, he's been whisked through most of the Temple on his way to meet with the Council. Now, Anakin realizes, he's actually going to have to learn his way around. It's his new home -- he's going to be living there, at least part of the time, for the rest of his life.

Somehow, when he imagined being a Jedi, he never thought he'd have to learn his way around a big, cold building filled with disapproving strangers. It's the new beginning he dreamed of, but suddenly, the cost seems too high.

They won't even let him see Padme.

It's all Jango can do not to drum his fingers. Finally, all the liquid has drained from the clear cylinder; the seal opens, and the Kaminoan tech lifts the infant out; hands it to Taun We for inspection. She checks her monitors -- merely a formality, he thinks, and wonders if she's deliberately stretching the moment out. Finally, she nods. Hands the baby back to the tech for swaddling.

At last, the tech hands Jango his son. Carefully, almost reverently, Jango takes the bundle. The boy looks up at him, expression oddly serious for a newborn.

Jango smiles. "Hello, Boba."

Padme stares down at the medscanner's display, not quite daring to believe what she's seeing. Instinctively, she presses her hand to her belly, a gesture as old as motherhood itself.

This changes everything.

For over two years, she has managed to keep her marriage to Anakin a secret. But as her pregnancy becomes more obvious, the speculations will begin. And as discreet as she and Anakin have been, in a place like Coruscant, true secrecy is impossible. They have been seen together.

She knows all this, but she can't make herself care. Not when there's new life growing inside her.

Long after they have faded from view, the four Jedi spirits watch the celebration.

"There's so much we can teach them," Obi-Wan says. "So much they need to know."

Qui-Gon shakes his head. "It's time for them to build their own future, not recreate the past."

Yoda frowns. "Without guidance, our mistakes they could repeat."

When Anakin speaks, he surprises the others. "Trust Luke," he says. "He's succeeded where all of us have failed."

Yoda lets out a chuckle, pokes Obi-Wan with the stick he no longer needs. "Finally, wisdom your young Padawan has learned. Occasion to celebrate, this is."
